Books are Great“Fill your house with stacks of books, in all the crannies and all the nooks.” – Dr Seuss

Books are great! We all agree.

Filling every nook and cranny with them is actually quite easy. In fact, it sort of happens by itself. Unwittingly books multiply and overflow ……and then overwhelm us

Books on the floor, books on the chairs, books under the sofa, books in the toy box, books stuffed so tightly into the shelf the whole caboodle comes out when trying to pull out one.

How can we keep our children’s books under control…
Space – dedicate specific spaces in your house to children’s books. You might have spaces in several rooms, but choose spaces that are visible and easy for the kids to access. Fill the space with books that fit comfortably. Consider donating the overflow, or store them out of sight. When storing books away, limit yourself to say 1 or 2 containers, otherwise this too gets out of control. (we really do LOVE books!)

Rotate – less is more. Offering too many choices can be overwhelming and difficult for young minds to process. By rotating books you reduce the volume and the kids also get new options every few weeks that seem special and much more likely to be picked up and explored.

Maintain – right, you have decided on and are sticking to dedicated book spaces in your house….you have a couple of containers full to rotate…. when you hear a knock on the door…….wouldn’t you know, a beautiful new children’s book!! New books will continue to arrive. Why not follow the ‘one-in, one-out’ rule? For each new book, decide to let one other book go.
“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”– Walt Disney

Enjoy them with your children
Pass them on to others to enjoy

Happy reading!
